With several thousand acres and located 30 minutes north of Atlanta, Scott Bowen, Alan Bowen and Aubrey Corporation established Sharp Top Trees in 1997. With its vast resources, such as farm land, water and other capital, Sharp Top Trees has the potential of becoming not only one of the largest B&B and ornamental landscape plant material producers in the South, but also one of the best.Sharp_Top_mountain_2_Horz.jpg (98342 bytes)

Sharp Top Trees history did not begin in 1997, but many years before. In the 1930’s, Syl Neel, founder of the Aubrey Corporation, purchased a large portion of the farm with the intent of it being a major source of timber and other plant materials for the growing and expanding South. Over the past 70 years this farm has produced millions of board feet of timber along with millions of bushels of various grains, silage, hay and milk. The farm has been family owned and operated with its foundation in agriculture since its beginning.

With Scott Bowen’s expertise in landscaping, irrigation and plant production, along with Alan Bowen’sBradford Pear 1.jpg (83702 bytes) agricultural and business background, a natural union was made with Aubrey Corporation to form Sharp Top Trees. Among the entities, we share over 100 years of plant production and marketing expertise. With Aubrey Corporation’s commitment to continuing its family basis in agriculture, it realized that, with Chattanooga encroaching from the north and Atlanta from the south, changes in their agricultural practices were needed. Taking the rich heavy clay based soils of Bartow County into consideration, the decision was made to find better ways to utilize the per acre yield of its assets. Thus Sharp Top Trees was established.

PRODUCTION

From the heavy clay soils of Bartow County, you are guaranteed a nice tight root ball on all of our B&B plant materials This type of soil is ideal for tree production and it is consistent with most of the soils in the region which will ensure good growth.

Water is plentiful and available from many sources on the farm. The primary water source is from our spring fed Lake_Mist.jpg (96187 bytes)lake. This large mountain spring provides some of the highest quality, pest and contaminant free water in all of North Georgia. The 70 + acre lake was built in the early 1900’s as a reservoir to accommodate mining that was being done in the area at that time. It allows us to utilize a sophisticated drip irrigation system to all of our tree production fields.

Selective pruning is done to assure a fine landscaping specimen that even the most demanding landscaping contractor, architect or owner would be proud to have on their job.

Root pruning is done on varieties known to benefit from this added step. Root pruning promotes a more fibrous root system that assures the highest quality product available.Kwanson Cherry.jpg (81045 bytes)

Central leaders are trained straight and are constantly guarded with trunk protectors to insure straight, smooth trunks.

A regimented fertilization program is followed through out the growing season. The program includes periodic injected liquid fertilization, through the drip irrigation system, along with granular, slow release fertilization.

Plant materials are harvested with proven digging machines to insure tight, wired root balls. Harvesting larger specimen materials we utilize quality hand digging methods to insure a tight drum laced root ball.
